چکیده

This study aims to assess the net benefit of kaptai dam on Karnafuli river in Kaptai, Chittagong, Bangladesh. Kaptai Dam, only hydroelectricity power source Bangladesh, provides 5% electricity demand The Dam is located River at Rangamati District, 65 km upstream from Chittagong. It an earth-fill or embankment with a reservoir water storage capacity 11,000 skm. Though Dam's primary purpose generate electricity, it became used for fishing and tourism. To find value estimate environmental costs benefits, we considered 1962 1997. We identify including its establishment cost, operational costs, lives that have been lost due conflicts, loss biodiversity, land uses, human displacements. Also, benefits production, earnings fisheries gain tourism Lake. findings show contributes tremendous As hydroelectricity, clean energy, might worthy this produced significant portion electricity. However, providing less than national followed by various external sensitive hardly Bangladesh economy. thus recommends should look other sources energy no chances eco-political conflicts.
